My boyfriend loves to listen to “Childish Gambino”, whenever
he is playing his games or walking to work. He then discovered that Donald
Glover had a stand up performance which we had to watch. At Donald’s
performance he mentioned that he is in community series (I thought his stand-up
was quite good) and I wanted to check it out!
So we started to watch the first episode and it was amazing
nothing I could compare it to. I fell in love with the series. It became a
tradition of “Jordon and lily in the morning, watching community”. The story
line follows a lawyer who is suspended when it is discovered that he has
falsely claimed to have a bachelor's degree. He has no other choice but to
enroll into community college. He forms a study group so that he can get closer
to an attractive student. However he does not plan other students to join the
group but he had no control over it. The study group includes a millionaire, a
former drug addict, a former quarter-back, a single mother, and a film student.
For a slight second there, I just thought I had
“changnesia” as I couldn't remember what I wanted to write about. I loved all
the characters equally I cannot decide on my favourite one. But if I had to
choose it would be 4 because that’s the smallest I can go. So the 4 people are
Abed, Senor Chang, Troy and Dean.
Abed Nadir-I believe everyone who will watch it will fall in
love with his character…I may be wrong but I always love the character who is
different and weird (like me ;] ) I love to hear what Abed has to say , he uses
movies and television to draw connections in real life. His inability to pick
up on social or emotional cues leads the group to think he has Asperger’s but
he is not diagnosed and one of the episodes after taking Britta’s test was the
sanest person out of the group.
Señor Chang –He isn't a typical teacher nor a typical
student he is better than that! He is a misplaced misanthrope, a master of
ruthless craft (clever use of the tongue), of cruelty against his students,
and, beneath this disguise, of intelligent comedic humour. I wouldn't want him
as teacher but I wouldn't mind him as a friend: 3
Dean Pelton - I love his character if I had him as my head
teacher I don’t think I would ever want to leave college! He is your unusual
character who loves to be different and is not shy of his sexuality. He adds
the personality of the college and supports the study group like a family. His
crush on Jeff is hilarious and adorable. ^^
Troy Barnes –I love
his friendship with Abed. He is a funny character as he lacks intelligence. The
biggest factor why I love his character is because the bond he has with Abed
which reminds me of my friendship with someone I have. It is funny, adorable
and cute!! I love their signature hand shake. <3
What I also loved about Community was that it is different,
most Tv series now involve friends where they talk about their life, love and
try to find boyfriends bla di blah yadi yada daa…Some seem to try and replicate
the Tv series Friends which is unmanageable as it is the best Tv series and it
is impossible to recreate or replace! However Community focus on the core
relationship among friends. As you do with friends develop natural sexual
tension but it mainly remains focused on their friendship. The Tv program gives
the message that it is “okay” to be “just friends” with someone and its” okay”
to feel yourself around your friends if that’s dorky, funny, uptight, bitchy or
fussy. It also gets the message that no matter what you are, there are people
out there that will be your friends and will care about you no matter what.
All the episodes that I have watched were funny; there
wasn't a time that I found an episode completely boring or had the urge to skip
it. Of course there are episodes funnier than others and characters more
entertaining than others but everyone have the chance to shine. As I mentioned
before my favourite characters were Abed, Troy, Dean and Senor Chang when you
will watch it you will understand or not. :3
The setting was made to give the series a reality feel,
there were few stereotypes such as a nerd a hipster, a “cool guy” and so on but
it works out well as it is expected to have diversity in the community college.
I believe the series can appeal to all different type of ages and people such
as; young, college-aged students, people who have time on their hands and want
another degree, people having a fresh start.
Overall a great series if you have not yet seen it, I would
like to recommend watching it and let me know what you think.
If you are currently watching it or already finished watching
it, I would love to hear what you think about it.
Once again thank you for your time to read this <3
